The touch-screen keypad may be used, although an increasing number of businesses choose to use barcode scanners for increased efficiency.

Specifying the cost centre can be achieved in a number of ways:
- Separate terminals located in each cost centre or production line
- Employee selects correct cost centre from a list on the terminal screen and activates start/finish times.
